The JS Sevens
(A Jewish Singles (JS) group for 50+)
The JS Sevens’ held their first ever Annual Fun Fund Raiser, a Karaoke Night at a special place called Lulu’s Restaurant. We met on Saturday night August 28th, Great event….!!!!!!!
We met at 5:30pm…. got set-up….then people began strolling in…. ordering margaritas, some fine beers and wine and really tasty food. The DJ, who exclusively was ours ‘til 8 pm, began playing music, singing and getting everyone relaxed. The fun part was we had our own PRIVATE ROOM….
It took a little while for everyone to “flow with their glow” and reach into their “other half”….. . Once into the rhythm of the night, there was not enough time to have everyone sing.….we needed more time. After the Karaoke people moseyed outside to listen to the band that began at 8 pm. People hung out ‘til ten, had some more libations and just had a great time.
Take a look at the pictures from both parties by going to the-jnvjcc.blogspot.com
Some kudos go out to Joy and Leroy, again, for helping plan the event; Nancy for helping take money and registration at the registration table and to Lulu’s for being so accommodating. When you are thumbing through the pictures, take a look at the sign we had at the registration table….a big THANKS to Eunice.
Wish we had a podcast of the event…well maybe not one where I was singing…but when I was up there with a group I can tell you it was really fun.
Also a big thank you to Ellen for spreading the word and bringing her group…which you can read about on ‘wonderfulonlinewomen.blogspot.com… they all seemed to really enjoy themselves.
The JS Sevens meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month. First is a planning meeting 7-8 pm then at 8 we will have a fun event.
Some future events being planned are a night at the Hollywood Park, a Wine Tasting in Malibu and Let’s Tour LA…just to highlight some of our up-coming events.
Out next meeting is on Wednesday October 20th at Temple Ramat Zion, 17655 Devonshire St., in Northridge (that is where the group meets) at 7 pm. On tap, not to drink, will be the discussion of our next two events.
Contact me, Jerry, at 818-360-2211 or email me nvjcc@yahoo.com or blog with me at the-jnvjcc.blogspot.com
Hope to see you at our next event…….The JS Sevens

What Cost Freedom
Costs of Freedom
In 1857 a gentleman named Frederick Douglas wrote the following:
The general sentiment of mankind is that a man who will not fight for himself, when he has the means of doing so, is not worth being fought for by others, and this sentiment is just. For a man who does not value freedom for himself will never value it for others, or put himself to any inconvenience to gain ti for others......
The whole history of the progress of human liberty shows that all concessions yet made to her august claims have been born of earnest struggle. The conflict has been exiting, agitating, all-absorbing, and for the time being, putting all other tumults to silence. It must do this or it does nothing. If there is no struggle there is no progress.. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet deprecate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lighting. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.
This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.

Some kudos go out to Joy and Leroy for helping plan the event; Esther, Eunice and Eileen for the new phone tree and making calls; Scott for all the hard prep work, and Joie and Nancy for helping Esther and Eunice welcome guests at the registration table. When you are thumbing through the pictures, take a look at the sign we had at the registration table….a big THANKS to Eunice.
Wish we had a podcast of the event…well maybe not one where I was singing…But we did have two wonderful singers, Karen and Patt (check out their website at sentimentaljourneyla.com) who set the tone for the entire evening. Then, Scott Pucker lent his voice to the affair and we were off and running.
Also a big thank you to Ellen for spreading the word and bringing her group…which you can read about on ‘wonderfulonlinewomen.blogspot.com… they all seemed to really enjoy themselves.
The JS Sevens are planning a night at the Hollywood Bowl, a Wine Tasting in Malibu and Let’s Tour LA…just to highlight some of our up-coming events.

The-J Preschool Newsletter
Spring is Blooming
The preschool children have planted flowers
and the stems have popped up from the ground. So we
will have beautiful flowers blooming soon. The children
have been so busy taking care of them and they
cannot wait to see the flowers. We have been
busy talking about the three "Rs" and it is not
reading, writing and arithmetic! NO, it is
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! We made two
boxes; one for waste and one for recyclables.
The children are being "Hero's of the Earth."
We have been talking about who the
people are in our neighborhood. We took a mini
field trip and walked outside and watched some
workers put up a new electric pole. The kids
were amazed at the big crane and that the truck's
tires were bigger than they are.
